Little Steps Lead To A Big Impact
When people think of mentoring programs, they think of Big Brothers Big Sisters. As an established youth organization for more than 45 years locally, we’ve worked to develop youth mentoring programs that work. Our experienced approach to recruiting, screening, matching, and supporting our mentoring relationships has resulted in thousands of lasting relationships and helped changed the lives of young people.
Enroll Your Youth Now!
The process to enroll a youth in the program is easy. Simply fill out an application first and a BBBS staff member will reach out to you. After the application is complete, BBBS staff complete the intake, where they will answer any questions and provide information about youth safety. After the intake, staff will contact the youth’s school and other service providers to understand the youth’s strengths and needs. Once accepted into the program, youth are ready to be matched!
Youth and Volunteer mentors are not matched on a first come, first serve basis. We try to make the best matches possible, based on personality, interests, location and preferences. We will contact you once we find a Big that we feel will be a good match for your youth.
Note: the guardian of the youth must complete and sign the application.

Safety is our highest priority.
We strive to achieve the highest quality possible in matching a youth to a caring volunteer Big, and in providing ongoing professional support services to our youth, parents, and volunteers.
To help ensure youth safety, Big Brothers Big Sisters National Standards of Excellence requires that each volunteer must complete a thorough screening process that includes an application, interviews with a Match Support Specialist, and a background check.
Big Brothers Big Sisters also provides youth safety tips to you and your youth, and we welcome your questions and feedback. Throughout the life of the match, our professional staff will be in ongoing communication with you, your youth, and your youth’s Big. Our staff and your youth’s Big, with your support, are committed to the healthy growth and development of your youth.
Parents are Partners
Parents and guardians play an important role during the match process. As a parent or guardian:
- You will approve all match activities and support your youth’s involvement in activities.
- You have regular check-ins with BBBS and your Match Support Specialist about your youth’s progress and milestones in the match relationships.
- You ask your youth about the match meetings and report any concerns to agency staff.
- You participate in training on youth safety and communicate to your youth the training received.

Your youth’s safety is very important to us.
Big Brothers Big Sisters conducts a thorough background check on every volunteer and every match is regularly reviewed by a professional Match Support Specialist.
